On the 30th October 2009 an enterprising young man from Northern Ireland will attempt to sail his car-boat, yes I did say car-boat and what’s more it is home made! from Donaghadee in Northern Ireland to Portpatrick inScotland, and all in support of ‘Help for Heroes’.

On the 30th October 2009 an enterprising young man from Northern Ireland will attempt to sail his car-boat, yes I did say car-boat and what’s more it is home made! from Donaghadee in Northern Ireland to Portpatrick in Scotland, and all in support of ‘Help for Heroes’.
Peter Martin is the man behind the attempt, and whilst not having a nautical background, he does have a very deep interest in Naval history, in fact the idea came to Peter in 2007, the twenty fifth anniversary of the Falklands and the first car-boat was born, with the name Sir Galahad, now two years on and with interest from “Top Gear” and the Guinness Book of World Records, Peter and his ‘crew’ will make the attempt, but only if their nautical advisor, Captain Peter Robinson, RFA (Retd), thinks the conditions are right. The “boat” now has a new name in honour of those members of the RFA who served in the Falklands; the craft now proudly bears the name of “Sir Tristram”.

This is a project that deserves to be supported as the “vessel” proudly bears the name of one of our famous ships, and the nautical advisor is a retired RFA Captain who believes in helping “our own”.
We will post news of the record attempt as we get news, hopefully the lads will be successful and Sir Tristram will get a mention in the record books.
