On the 30th of November 1948 two engineer’s from RFA Wave Protector appeared before Mr Justice W. Harding in the the Criminal Court in Valetta, Malta.

Third Engineer Officer John Lamb, aged 27, from Glasgow, Scotland serving on RFA Wave Protector was charged with: –

  1. Simple permanent disfigurement of the Second Engineer Officer R W Ramshaw on the night of the 14/15 September 1948 on the Wave Protector by striking the Officer in the neck with a broken bottle.

Junior Engineer Officer John Forrest from Sunderland was charged with: –

  1. On 14 September 1948 left the ship without the permission of the Master at a time when he should have been on duty in the engine room on the Wave Protector.

Five witnesses for the prosecution gave evidence and statements from a further four other witnesses including the Master were read to the Court.

John Lamb was found guilty by the Jury and sentenced to 40 days imprisonment. John Forrest was remanded and admonished.
