Operation ‘Weldfast’ was conducted in the general area of Greece, Turkey and the Aegean Sea during October 1953 and involved over 200 warships together with air forces of the NATO Southern Command and the Greek and Turkish air and land forces. It was designed to test the training and co-operation of assigned and earmarked forces in Southern Europe.
