Hundreds more to receive campaign medals with change in criteria
The Ministry of Defence has just announced that hundreds more British Servicemen and Women will receive operational campaign medals under new plans announced on the 4th August 2010.
The present criteria for the award of a campaign medal for Iraq and Afghanistan state that the recipient must have 30 days continuous service in the operational area, with the new rules, which follow a revue into qualifying criteria, those who have served for an aggregate period of 45 days will now be eligible for the relevant campaign medal.
The new rule come into force for the Iraq and Afghanistan operations and will be backdated to the start of both operations, this means that any member of the RFA that did not accrue the necessary 30 days under the old system, but moved in and out of the operational are eligible for the medals as long as they can prove they accrued the 45 days aggregate
