In 1956 numerous ships of the Royal Fleet Auxiliary Service were engaged in Operation Musketeer – the Suez Crisis – with Royal Naval vessels. Crew members of the RFA ships listed below had to undertake service for one or more days either ashore in Egypt or afloat off the Egyptian coast either in the Mediterranean or in the Red Sea. This period of service had to be between 31 October 1956 to 22 December 1956 inclusive – for this Naval General Service Medal 1915 with the Near East Clasp was issued
