1916 launched by Taikoo Dockyard & Engineering Co. of Hong Kong Ltd., Hong Hong as Yard Nr:157 named Kajang for Straits Steamship Co Ltd., Singapore

June 1916 completed

16 April 1917 requisitioned for Admiralty service as a collier – name unchanged – until 29 May 1917

30 May 1917 re-deployed as an Expeditionary Force Transport carrying Eastern timber and was then transferred to the Liner section on 9 August 1917

10 September 1917 stopped by boarded by HMS TOPAZE which was on the Perim Patrol

16 October 1917 re-deployed as an Expeditionary Force Transport for the Director Royal Indian Marine, Bombay

15 December 1917 stopped and boarded by HMS SAPPHIRE a 3rd class cruiser – allowed to proceed

26 September 1919 arrived at Fremantle from an Indian port

28 January 1920 the Dundee Evening Telegraph reported that the Kajang which had grounded near Taganak, Borneo was badly damaged. The forehold was flooded and the ship was now lying at Sandakan discharging. The newspaper advised it readers that the ship would be beached for repairs

6 January 1936 sailed Sandakan for Kudat

16 April 1936 arrived at Sandakan

5 October 1937 in collision near Singapore with a Japanese fishing boat. Rescued the 30 crew of the fisthing boat

2 May 1942 sailed Colombo in escorted convoy C.14 until it dispersed on 5 May 1942 at 07.07N 70.38E

5 January 1943 sailed Freetown for Bathurst escorted by HMS’s FANDANGO and BUTSER

13 January 1943 sailed Bathurst for Freetown escorted by HMS BREDON with HM ML’s 278 and 1072

15 January 1943 arrived at Freetown with escort

19 January 1943 sailed Freetown in escorted convoy ST53 to Takoradi arriving 23 January 1943

11 March 1943 sailed Bathurst for Freetown being escorted by HM ML’s 279 & 302

13 March 1943 arrived at Freetown with escort

1 April 1943 sailed Takoradi for Half  Assini, Gold Coast escorted by HM ML 1042

11 May 1943 Chief Engineer Officer Thomas Purdie Young discharged dead. He is buried in Ikoyi No: 2 Cemetery, Lagos, Nigeria in grave No: 383
