RFA Oleander was damaged by a near miss during an enemy air raid on the 26th May 1940, whilst in Harstad Bay, the ship was beached and an attempt was made to try and salvage her cargo, but this was abandoned and the ship was lost.

RFA Oleander was the first RFA loss of World War 2.
