The Courtney Bilkey Memorial Shield

Courtney Bilkey Memorial ShieldThe Courtney Bilkey Memorial Shield is presented to the RFA Trainee Chef achieving the highest results during training on course at HMS RALEIGH.

Chief Petty Officer (Cook) Courtney Bilkey retired in February 2005 from the RFA and passed away in November 2006, aged 44, having suffered a long illness. Courtney was admired as an excellent and innovative chef, a sympathetic manager and a good shipmate. In particular he took time and patience to mentor and encourage junior members of his team and was always quick to acknowledge the encouragement he was given on joining the RFA as a catering boy to develop his culinary skills.

It was entirely appropriate to mark his passing and provide an enduring memorial by inaugurating a memorial shield in his name. Therefore, this shield is presented to the RFA Trainee Chef achieving the highest results during training on course at HMS RALEIGH .
