RFA ships have been involved in naval operations, humanitarian and life saving actions in both peace and war since the Service’s formation in 1905.

Details of the operations or actions where RFA’s were involved are listed below.

This list is far from complete and as further research identifies additional operations, humanitarian and life saving actions these will be added with as much back ground details as can be ascertained: –

1945 – Operation Zipper

Operation Zipper was a British plan to capture either at Port Swettenham or Port Dickson, Malaya as staging areas for the recapture of Singapore. (more…)

1972 – Operation Zealous

Operation Zealous was an operation to provide, on standby, naval support and facilities to assist in the evacuation of British nationals from Uganda between October 1972 to December 1972. (more…)

2008 – Operation Zest

Operation Zest was conducted between 1 February 2008 until 25 March 2008 when a Joint Service task force commenced work on the reconstruction and reinforcement of Calshot Harbour, Tristan da Cunha in the South Atlantic Ocean. (more…)

2001 – Operation Veritas

Operation Veritas was the codename used for British military operations against the Taliban government of Afghanistan in 2001. British forces played a supporting role to the American Operation Enduring Freedom. In addition, the British contribution was an important part of the overall forces deployed. (more…)

1942 – Operation Vigorous

Operation Vigorous was a World War 2 Allied operation to deliver a supply convoy (MW-11) that sailed from Haifa and Port Said on 12 June 1942 to Malta. The convoy encountered heavy Axis air and sea opposition and returned to Alexandria on 16 June. (more…)
